Trophées Performance Veolia Environnement 2008

Amendment n°1 of the Rules of the Game “Trophées Performance 2008Veolia Environnement”
ARTICLE 3 - REGISTRATION
The students of the Master degree “Management et Ingénierie des services à l’Environnement” provided by the CFA Institut de l’Environnement can not register to the “Trophées Performance”.
Interested Candidates should register through the website:
www.campus.veoliaenvironnement.com, «Trophées Performance» section.
The candidate or candidate group (max 3 co-authors) must complete the registration form on line after having indicated acceptance of the rules.
The co-authors must be students cooperating on the same subject.
The registration form must include the following information:
- Given or family name(s), first name(s) of the candidate(s),
- School/University: its name, major or speciality, contact details
- Advisor: name, contact details
- Location of the internship (“stage”)
- Mentor/ Tutor: names, Contact details,
- Theme selected and reasons for choice within the category selected,
The closing date for the receipt of registrations is 30 June 2008. Registrations sent after the closing date will not be considered.
According to the provisions of the Computerised Data and Freedom of Access, law of the 6 January 1978 as amended, candidates have the right to access, amend and remove information about themselves and a right to prevent their processing by the Veolia Environnement Company or its Subsidiaries, by writing to the following address:

This competition is organised each year to recognise the best work produced for final study projects submitted by students in their last year of school (Engineering school, Business school or University degree course). The project should be linked to the activities of Veolia Environnement or its 4 divisions (Veolia Transportation; Dalkia, Veolia Environnement Service, Veolia Water-Compagnie Générale des Eaux).
To this end, each year, Trophies are awarded in the following five categories :
Veolia Environnement category :
the Veolia Environnement Trophy is awarded in recognition of the best work in a field associated with or applied to the Veolia Environnement field of business, to several operations or to one corporate activity,
Transport category :
The Veolia Transport Trophy rewards the best work in a field associated with or applied to the Veolia Transport field of business,
Energy category:
the Veolia Energie Trophy is awarded for the best work in a field associated with or applied to the Dalkia field of business,
Waste management category :
the Veolia Propreté Trophy rewards the best work in a field associated with or applied to the Veolia Propreté of business,
Water category :
the Veolia Eau Trophy is awarded in recognition of the best work in a field associated with or applied to the Veolia Eau field of business.
The competition rules are detailed below.
ARTICLE 1 - ELIGIBLE WORK
The competition is open to projects that have been carried out by one or more students as part of the last year of a Master level degree course (European standard) for the 2007-2008 academic year and more specifically:
- Final dissertation,
- Final studies project,
- Final studies course work
- Projects carried out «in partnership»
- Entrepreneurial project
Subjects addressed by the projects submitted must fall under one of the categories defined above and be associated with and/or applied to:
- One of the Veolia Environnement business activities and/or those of its 4 Divisions (delegated management of environmental services for businesses and local authorities, public transportation, industrial and household waste management, drinking water distribution, waste water treatment, energy management).
- One of the company’s business operations (purchasing/procurement, insurance, sales/ customer management, communication/ public relations, finance/management/accounting, project management, information technology, legal aspects, quality, Knowledge Management, marketing, human resources).
ARTICLE 2 - SUBJECT AREAS
The following areas are given as examples. The purpose is to guide students who wish to enter the competition in their choice of an appropriate subject.
Examples of subjects that could be selected for Veolia Transport Trophy :
- Inter-related modal transport policies,
- Urban mobility,
- Reducing nuisances caused by buses,
- Public transport and safety,
- Travel planning information systems,
- Ergonomic and public transport systems.
Examples of subjects that could be selected Veolia Energie Trophy:
- Air conditioning engineering and heat production,
- Turbines, thermal motors designed with a view to combined heat and power systems, fuel cells,
- Remote management and remote surveillance,
- Risk prevention,
- Industrial maintenance for energy systems,
- Refrigeration management and production.
Examples of subjects that could be selected category for the Veolia Environmental Services Trophy:
- Waste identification,
- Waste recycling,
- Waste collection and transport,
- Waste storage,
- Thermal processing of waste,
- Health and environmental hazards,
- Waste reduction at the source,
- Composting,
- Processing hazardous waste,
- Integrated pollution management,
- Life cycle analyses
Examples of subjects that could be selected for the Veolia Water Trophy:
- Hybrid source management and production,
- Methods used to analyse water-borne micro pollutants,
- Membrane techniques,
- Water treatment processes,
- Waste water recycling,
- Processing liquid industrial effluent,
- Sewage plant sludge,
- Hydrogeology,
- Water and health issues,
- Water in developing countries,
- Seawater desalination,
- Water and epidemiological problems.
Examples of subjects that could be selected for the Veolia Environnement Trophy:
- Management in the fields of finance, accounting and taxation (linked to the Veolia activities and/or the environment),
- Organisation/procedures applicable to a company providing a public service,
- Market positioning (products, provision of services, vertical integration, outsourcing, etc.),
- Marketing tools (individual customers, local authorities, industry, tertiary clients),
- Image policy,
- The economy of the environment (developing environmentally-friendly approaches, tools. E.g. «green» certificates, emission licences, etc.)
- Trade strategy, development,
- Quality, environmental quality, certification,
- Knowledge Management,
- Lobbying,
- The economy of new technologies, deployment scenarios, R&D strategy,
- The role played by information systems (NICT) in the service industries,
- The involvement of manpower and human resources.

ARTICLE 4 - TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
The competition will take place in 3 stages:
Stage 1
Only the project of the Candidate(s) whose registration form(s) is in compliance with the present Rules will go forward to the next stage of the competition for assessment.
The list of short-listed candidates will be posted on the website www.campus.veoliaenvironnement.com , no later than 16th June 2008
Stage 2
The short-listed students or student groups MUST submit their work as a digital file before 31st August 2008.
Students are also requested to send a hard copy of their work with a summary to the address given under Article 3.
This report, drafted in French or in English, constitutes the work carried out at the end of a continuous period of study with a view to obtaining a degree. A brief executive summary will be required together with the curriculum vitae of the student(s).
A reading committee will reduce the number of works selected to approximately twenty. The criteria for the selection of such work being the compliance of the topic proposed in the registration form fulfilled by the candidate with the corresponding subjects area (see list in Article 2 ).
The list of works selected for presentation before a jury will be published on the website before the 1st October 2008.
Stage 3
The works selected will be defended orally before the jury according to the conditions detailed under article 7.
The results of the competition together with the identity of the trophy winners will be published as from 31st October 2008.
Veolia Environnement cannot be held responsible if, due to unforeseen contingencies, this competition is altered, curtailed or cancelled.
ARTICLE 5 - ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
The choice of criteria has been dictated by the wish to combine the scientific and/or technical qualities of the works with the candidates’ commitment and communication skills:
- quality of the document (presentation)
- Quality of the presentation made to the jury and the ability to communicate verbally the conclusions reached by the study and to present them with clarity within the time frame provided by the rules
- Practical nature (realistic and feasible) of the solutions put forward
- Innovative features (novelty, originality of the vision and/or the approach presented by the candidate)
- Reasoning logic
- Intellectual maturity (with respect to the state of the common knowledge relating to the topic presented).
ARTICLE 6 - JURY
The Trophées Performance Jury will be made up of :
- Operational, communication, R&D, Human resources, Sales and Marketing managers from Veolia Environnement.
- One member from outside of the Company.
ARTICLE 7 –ORAL DEFENCE
The oral defence of the work will take place before the Jury on the 20th, 21st, 22nd ,23rd October 2008 at the following address:

Candidates will be allocated 20 minutes within which to present their work. The candidate(s) will then discuss the work with the Jury. This discussion will last no more than 10 minutes.
The oral defence can be made in French or in English according to student preference.
ARTICLE 8 - CONFIDENTIALITY AND COLLABORATION WITH INDUSTRIALISTS
Any confidentiality issue must be notified in advance in writing to the jury. Limitations associated with the confidential nature of the works must not affect the jury’s understanding of the project nor reduce the project to a mere statement. Veolia Environnement and the members of the Jury agree to respect the confidential nature of the documents submitted to them.
ARTICLE 9 - INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
Veolia Environnement does not claim any rights of any nature whatsoever over the work carried out by the candidates.
Prize winners also agree to allow Veolia Environnement to use their names, addresses, photos and other personal information for the only purpose of the competition, throughout its duration.
ARTICLE 10 - PRIZES
- Prizes awarded to the winner(s) :
The jury will meet to deliberate and to nominate the winning five students and/or groups of students who will receive as follow:
- One return ticket (to a destination chosen by Veolia Environnement and valid for use within the twelve months following the publication of results, whose value is between 600 and 800 euros) for the winning candidate student(s),
- A sum of 2,000 euros will be paid to each prize winner (in the event of a team, this sum will be shared by the team members).
- Prize awarded to the college :
The college of the prize winner(s) will receive a sum of 4,000 euros, remitted to the Head of the Establishment or to the Head of the Training Department.
ARTICLE 11 - OFFICIAL PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY
The prize winners and representatives from the winning colleges will be invited to the official Trophées Performance prize giving ceremony.
ARTICLE 12 -REGISTRATION OF RULES
These rules have been lodged with the offices of Maitre Lachkar, Bailiff, 156 rue de Montmartre, 75002 Paris.

ARTICLE 13 - LIABILITY
Veolia Environnement shall not be held liable for any reason whatsoever if, by reason of force majeure or of circumstances beyond Veolia Environnement’s control, the Company should cancel, shorten, extend, postpone or modify the terms and conditions or dates scheduled for the competition.
Veolia Environnement shall not be held liable for any reason for any problem whatsoever due to the travel resulting from the return ticket awarded, in particular for any and all delay or cancellation of the travel.
ARTICLE 14 - APPLICABLE LEGISLATION
These rules are governed by the French laws and jurisdictions, without limitation regarding any difficulty or dispute about the interpretation or the completion of such rules.
